The Asics Dynablast 5 is a $100 ($120 MSRP) daily trainer that is often compared to the beloved Novablast 3. Positioned in the entry-level segment, it competes with shoes like the New Balance Propel v5 (often on sale for $65) and the Adidas Adistar 3 (also frequently marked down to $65). Its geometry, 8mm heel-to-toe drop, chunky heel, and distinctive midsole indentation are reminiscent of the $200 Superblast 2—only with slightly softer foam and a more traditional underfoot feel. The Dynablast 5 is decently comfortable, offering good heel cushioning, solid support and protection, and a decent bounce. The foam is on the firmer side, but doesn’t feel brick-like. Heel strikers in particular are likely to enjoy the ride. Compared to its competitors, it features higher quality materials and is noticeably firmer than the Adidas Adistar 3, while also providing more foam and overall protection than the New Balance Propel v5. If you’re looking for one shoe that can handle daily miles, some speed work, and longer efforts, the Dynablast 5 is a versatile, traditional feeling daily trainer at a budget-friendly price.
