The ASICS GT-2000 14 is an everyday running shoe designed for support and versatility. Priced at $140, it competes with the Nike Structure 26 ($145) and Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25 ($155). The GT-2000 is ASICS’ classic stability shoe, but this version brings a lighter, less firm foam than the previous version and is less prescriptively stable. The step-in feel is good but not too soft and it fits true-to-size. It reminds us a lot of the Novablast 4 with its goldilocks-zone to slightly firmer foam, a smoothness to the ride, especially as you get deeper into the run, nice pop, and the way that it just melts away. The ride of it is smooth and comfortable with a no-nonsense, absence of anything bothersome, disappears on-foot feel. It is exactly what you would expect from an entry-level, everyday performance daily trainer. It’s everything you need and nothing you don’t—it’s supportive and has just enough comfort and cushion. The one critique is at the beginning of the run the forefoot foam took some getting used to because there was a lot of ground feel, but it’s not supposed to be a max stack shoe. Unlike a lot of other low-stack shoes though, the further we got into the run, the more protective it felt. If you like a slightly softer foam and a higher stack in your stability shoe, the Gel-Kayano 32 is a better pick. If you are looking for a stability-oriented daily trainer that is a nice blend of modern comfort—with the upgraded foam, slightly softer feel, and light weight—with a normal daily trainer geometry and stack, the GT-2000 14 is a great pick.
