The Kiprun Kipstorm Elite is Kiprun’s carbon-plated racer designed for comfort and speed. At $250. It competes with race shoes like the Adidas Adios Pro 4 ($255) and Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4 ($250). Kiprun has two different race shoes, the Lab and the Elite. The Elite is designed to be more approachable and is designed for the 10k, half marathon, and marathon distances. It features an ATPU foam as the outer layer surrounding a PEBA midsole with a full-length carbon fiber plate. Upon step-in we found it to be very roomy and to fit a half size to a full size too large, so you will likely need to size down. It has a performance upper with saw-tooth laces. On the run the foam felt less firm than we expected and was in the goldilocks zone with a nice bounce and good pop off the forefoot when you pick up the pace, disappearing on foot. The geometry, protective cushioning, and stiffer upper reminds us of a race version of the Brooks Hyperion Max 3. We are looking forward to putting more miles on the Kipstorm Elite and testing it out on the long run.
