The Mizuno Wave Rider 29 is an everyday running shoe designed for comfort and durability. Priced at $150, it competes with shoes like the Brooks Ghost Max 2 ($150) and Hoka Clifton 10 ($155). This is a legacy, standard workhorse shoe that Mizuno has done a great job updating—adding a slightly more fun and energetic foam without straying too far from its roots. The Wave Rider 29 is ideal for someone who has a one-sneaker rotation. It’s designed to handle everything: walking, running, and running errands. The step-in feel is very comfortable, with a nicely padded tongue and heel collar. The fit is good—not too wide or too narrow—though it may not be the best option for runners with wider feet. On the run, we found it had a surprisingly fun ride with good bounce, decent squish, and some real pep. It even feels more responsive when you pick up the pace, making it a great choice for bigger runners. The foam is firmer and denser than the supercritical TPU Enerzy NXT foam found in the top layer of the Neo Vista 2 and Neo Zen, but it still offers a fun ride. The nylon plate adds some stability, and overall, this is probably one of the best 10mm drop daily trainers on the market. The outsole features a durable rubber with some grip and teeth, making it reliable on a variety of surfaces. If you’ve liked previous versions of the Wave Rider, this update won’t disappoint. And if you’re looking for a dependable, do-it-all shoe for everyday training, the Mizuno Wave Rider 29 is a solid choice.
