The Reebok SpeedShifter is an all new race shoe designed for speed. At $220, it competes with models like the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4 ($250) and the Altra Vanish Carbon 3 ($240). The SpeedShifter features a dual-density midsole with a full-length carbon fiber plate. The HyperFloat foam is an all-new ATPU compound that is surprisingly bouncy. Upon step-in, we found the toebox to be quite tapered and the overall fit to be race-like and snug through the midfoot, so it is probably best for those with narrow or standard width feet. The outsole rubber is generous, which suggests it will have good durability. It is heavier than the fastest race shoes on the market at 210 grams in a US Men’s size 9, but it is not the heaviest either. Out on the run we were pleasantly surprised to find the ride to be bouncy, fun, and smooth. The foam is responsive and soft without being mushy. It has the bounce of the Li-Ning Red Hare 9 Ultra and the smooth rocker geometry of something like the Saucony Endorphin Speed shoes. It is a comfortable, approachable, and versatile race shoe that is not the lightest or fastest. We would likely not race in it, but it has enough snap off the forefoot and a pleasant, bouncy, soft underfoot feel to be a good long-run or tempo shoe.
