The Altra Vanish Tempo 2 is a plastic plated speed trainer with an anatomical fit. At $200, it competes with models like the Adidas Boston 13 ($160) and the Hoka Mach X3 ($190). It features a dual foam midsole using Altra’s new FAST TRN supercritical foam and a full length plastic plate with a split-toe design. The step-in feel is on the firmer side with a lightweight upper. It has the typical Altra anatomical toe box, which for some people will mean half sizing up due to the length and volume in the forefoot feeling a bit short. On the run, we found that it is a firmer, more responsive shoe that rewards you for putting some power into it. It has a moderate drop feel with the classic Altra wide toe box and a flatter rocker geometry than in the Vanish Carbon 3 racer and a natural, connected experience with an elevated, updated foam. The midsole is one of the best firmer foams on the market in 2026. At relaxed paces, it doesn’t feel bouncy or fun, but once you pick up the pace, it feels really nice and responsive. If you like a firmer underfoot feel or need a wider toebox, this shoe is a great option for daily miles and some pace pick-up.
