The New Balance SC Elite v4 is the Boston-based brand’s latest take on the 40mm marathon racer. Priced at $250, it competes with the Nike Alphafly 3 ($285) and the Hoka Cielo X1 ($275). It features an all-new PEBA-based FuelCell midsole, a 4mm heel-to-toe drop, and a full-length carbon fiber plate. Its wider heel and forefoot give it a notably stable feel underfoot. With its lower drop, less pronounced rocker, and heavier weight, it delivers a much less aggressive ride compared to some of the more popular marathon racers. Compared to the Hoka Cielo X1, it’s not as rockered, fun, or bouncy. While it may not be the fastest or most aggressive option out there, it could serve well as a marathon training shoe or a comfortable race-day choice for runners seeking stability, comfort, and a more traditional feel.
