The On Cloudflow 5 is a training shoe built for speed and versatility. Priced at $180, it competes with models like the Adidas Boston 13 ($160) and Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 ($175). This is a legitimate update from the previous version, and one we were genuinely excited to test. It still feels like a classic On shoe—supportive, stable, and featuring excellent geometry—but with a much-needed modern upgrade. The Cloudflow 5 now features a dual-foam midsole construction, with On’s PEBA race foam layered on top of a firmer EVA-blend training foam, separated by a nylon plate. Despite the inclusion of PEBA, the overall feel is firmer than we expected—noticeably firmer than the Endorphin Speed 5, Adidas EVO SL, or even the Boston 13. It doesn’t have the soft, bouncy feel of the Cloudboom Zone or Cloudboom Strike, which are among On’s best speed training and marathon racers in terms of comfort and energy return. On step-in, the fit is narrow but not overly long, which is often a problem for On shoes. The rocker geometry stands out here, offering a smooth ride and a snappy toe-off that reminds us of the ride in the EVO SL—it feels best when you're picking up the pace or applying some power. The CloudTec system, combined with the firmer foam provides great impact absorption, making it a solid choice for larger runners. If you're a fan of classic On shoes and looking for a supportive, slightly firm, protective, yet fast daily trainer or speed workout shoe, the Cloudflow 5 is a great option to consider.
