Mizuno Sky Prime Overview, Comparisons & First Run Review
Below we are providing the specs of the all new max cushion Mizuno Sky Prime, comparing it to the Neo Vista 3, and giving you our first run review.
The Mizuno Sky Prime is dropping October 1 as the newest max cushion cruiser. With a dual-foam set up, comfortable upper, and wide base, the Sky Prime is designed to blend bounce and support in a super max stack package. The shoe debuts EnerzyNXT+, an all-new PEBA blend training foam that's intended to be soft, responsive and smooth underfoot. Our team has enjoyed the shoe so far for relaxed miles in testing.

Comparing the Mizuno Sky Prime to the Neo Vista 3
The Marketing Brief
The all new plate-less, dual foam Sky Prime is a crowd-pleasing comfort cruiser designed for high mileage training. It offers a soft, stable ride and an approachable geometry that feels best at recovery efforts. The Neo Vista 3 is a plastic-plated max cushion shoe optimized for long runs and aerobic mileage. The Neo Vista feels better for picking up the pace thanks to its more aggressive rocker and plated midsole.
Midsole Construction and Foams
The Sky Prime utilizes a dual foam construction without a plate. On the top layer is a new foam from Mizuno called Enerzy NXT+ that is some sort of supercritical PEBA blend that provides a soft, cushioned feel underfoot. On the bottom is a firmer EVA-based layer of Enerzy NXT for added stability. The Neo Vista 3 utilizes a plastic plate sandwiched between their Enerzy NXT foam on the top and an EVA layer on the bottom. The Neo Vista 3 also has a more aggressive rocker geometry that encourages a faster turn over and picking up the pace.
Stack Height & Weight
The Sky Prime has 47mm of foam in the heel with a 6mm drop, while the Neo Vista 3 has 44.5mm in the heel and an 8mm drop. The extra foam and more comfort-oriented, plush upper of the Sky Prime result in it coming in heavier, at 295 grams, compared to 266 grams in the Neo Vista 3, for a Men's US size 9.

Sky Prime vs. the Competition
While there are a lot of really nice max cushion shoes on the market, the recent releases have leaned more towards having a more aggressive rocker geometry, encouraging you to pick up the pace. We aren't seeing as many relaxed max cushion cruisers that reward easy or recovery paces. The softer foam on the top layer, firmer EVA based layer on the bottom, and the not too aggressive, but also not too flat, geometry of the Sky Prime give it a very relaxed, but stable ride. Here's how we think the Sky Prime fairs compared to its competitors:
- Hoka Skyward X2: The Skyward X2 is on the firmer side of these models with a pretty aggressive rocker and middle of the road speed assistance and good stability due to the plastic plate and firmer foam.
- Adidas Hyperboost Edge: The Hyperboost Edge is also on the firmer side of the goldilocks zone with the most aggressive rocker of the bunch, which also results in the most speed assistance. The beauty of the Hyperboost Edge is that you get both speed assistance and stability in this shoe.
- Saucony Paramount Max: The Paramount Max is right down the middle in terms of firmness of the foam, which was a surprise since it is supposed to be using one of the softest, bounciest foams on the market, IncrediRun. However, it has a very flat geometry that makes it difficult to turn over, resulting in very little speed assistance and pretty good stability.
- ASICS Superblast 3: Of these shoes, the Superblast 3 has the softest underfoot feel with the thick layer of FF Leap. It has a pretty flat geometry, characteristic of the "Blast" line of shoes from ASICS, but the FF Leap provides a lot of responsiveness and speed assistance when putting power down in the shoe. While not as stable as the Superblast 2, it is a decently stable shoe.
