The On Cloudultra Pro is a cushioned trail shoe designed for long efforts. Priced at $260, it competes with the Hoka Tecton X3 ($275) and the Salomon S/Lab Ultra Glide ($250). It features a dual-foam construction with a softer version of the Helion HF PEBA super-foam on top, a nylon plate in the middle, and a firmer version of the Helion HF on the bottom along with On’s proprietary Cloudtec pods. The outsole is equipped with Missiongriprubber and lugs that we found suitable for some road running. The upper is very lightweight, probably better suited to warmer trail runs, but it performed well in the cold conditions too. It holds your foot in nicely and comes up a little higher than some shoes, which is needed for such a high stack of foam. Out on the run we found it to be surprisingly stable with a soft, floaty, cushioned, protective, gentle, highly assistive ride experience. The rocker is incredible with a smooth rocker geometry. It completely deletes the impact of the ground, making it so easy to stack high mileage runs. It has to be one of On’s best performance running shoes, showcasing the best implementation of On’s technology to date.
