The Skechers Aero Spark is a training shoe designed for streamlined speed. Priced at $120, it competes with shoes like the Nike Pegasus Plus ($180) and Adidas Boston 13 ($160). It features two layers of Skechers’ dual-density HYPER BURST ICE foam, a carbon-infused plate in the forefoot, and a Goodyear Rubber outsole. Because the Aero Spark was marketed as a lightweight, low-stack speed shoe, our initial expectation was that it would be super light, peppy, and fast—something that could compete with shoes like the New Balance Rebel v5 or the Hoka Mach 6. However, it’s not as lightweight as expected. Instead, it is a streamlined, sturdy, more traditional-feeling trainer—reminiscent of the Pegasus 39 or shoes in the Adidas Boston line. The foam feels firm (in this iteration) and durable, well-suited for longer efforts and putting down force into the forefoot. The ride is pleasant, with a smooth rocker, good heel cushioning, and a decent amount of bounce in the forefoot, although nothing like the bounce you can find in the max cushion Skechers Aero Burst. It’s decently comfortable, free from gimmicks, and offers a lower-to-the-ground, connected feel. If you enjoy a workhorse-style, traditional-feeling speed shoe or want to add something like that to your rotation, the Aero Spark is a solid pick—especially at $120.
