The Adidas Evo SL Woven is a much-need upper update to the modern classic speed shoe. Priced at $150, it features a material similar to the Adios Pro 4. Adidas is calling it a woven upper, but it is more like a performance mesh upper. The heel collar and laces seem to be the same as the original version. The other notable change is that it has a gusseted tongue. The fit is more dialed and less baggy. It weighed in about 10 grams heavier than our original pair of EVO SLs with the normal upper.
The upper in this version just feels nicer, more refined and pleasant upon step-in. It feels more upscale, more dialed-in and more like a race shoe upper. If you liked the original EVO SL, you will likely enjoy this one. If you were worried about the fit of the upper in the original, this version does mostly resolve that, though it is certainly not plush. If you didn’t like the ride or midsole foam of the original, you are unlikely to like this one any better.
