The UFO is a max cushioned training shoe designed for speed over long distances from R.A.D, a new running brand. Priced at $200, it competes with shoes like the ASICS Megablast ($225) and Adidas Evo SL ($150). The step-in feel is fantastic—the upper is very comfortable with a padded tongue, a nice, dialed-in lacing system, and the materials and attention to detail are immaculate. This is one of the best executions of this type of shoe—a dual-foam, non-plated trainer— that we have seen yet. The stack height is not too high, without getting into crazy territory like the Vomero Premium and the MagMax, and it is very light weight, while also providing stability and great impact protection. This has the speed assistance of the EVO SL, with a similar geometry and bounce, but with more comfort. It is extremely energetic and once you get it going, it can fly. It definitely encourages you to get up onto your forefoot and it pops you along as you pick up the pace. The cushion to speed and the stack to bounce ratio is incredible. While it’s not quite as comfortable as the Vomero Plus, it's also not as aggressive as the Megablast. The feel is comfortable, the ride is comfortable, and the speed is there. The UFO is a very impressive debut performance running shoe from R.A.D and we look forward to getting more miles in it and seeing how it performs for workouts and long runs.
