The ASICS Megablast is a training shoe designed for speed and versatility. Priced at $225, it competes with shoes like the Adidas Evo SL ($150) and Brooks Hyperion Max 3 ($200). It has a very similar geometry to the Gel-Nimbus 27, but with a full stack of ASICS’ new ATPU foam called FF TURBO2. It has a very forgiving rocker geometry without the disjointed heel and forefoot experience found in the Novablast and Superblast. Upon step-in, we found it to fit true to size with a very lightweight, race-oriented upper, and just enough padding in the heel to be comfortable. The run had us grinning ear-to-ear. It offers something totally different from anything else we’ve experienced. The feel of the foam is unique—it is lightweight, bouncy, comfortable, and fast. ASICS managed to deliver a speed-oriented max stack training foam that is very light, incredibly energetic and bouncy, and so much fun! We tested it across a variety of paces and efforts. We were absolutely flying on the strides and pick-ups—it was easy to get up on the front and pop off the forefoot—and it felt smooth, natural and comfortable at the relaxed paces. The hype is real on this one and it is definitely a shoe of the year contender. We can confidently call this one a Supwell-certified banger!
