The Novablast 5 TR is ASICS’ popular daily trainer, the Novablast, optimized for off-road and trail running. Priced at $150, it competes with shoes like the Nike Pegasus Trail 5 GTX ($170) and Hoka Speedgoat 6 ($155). While it doesn’t feature an aggressive trail outsole, the hope was that this version would perform better on slick roads. Unfortunately, it doesn’t improve much on wet pavement. Still, the thick rubber outsole, additional tongue padding, and waterproof toe cap make it a solid choice for transitioning between roads, paths, and less technical trails. The Novablast 5 TR may be about 3% slower and 8-10% heavier than the OG, but it’s still a banger if you’re after a durable ride with some pastel earth tones.
