The Salomon Aero Glide 3 GRVL is an everyday running shoe with a beefed-up outsole designed to handle wet weather and off-road terrain. Priced at $160, it competes with models like the Nike Peg Trail 5 GTX ($170 MSRP, often on sale for around $100) and the ASICS Novablast 5 TR ($150). If you’ve been following the channel, you already know the Salomon Aero Glide 3 is currently our favorite daily trainer. The GRVL version builds on that platform with about 3mm of extra rubber on the outsole, a waterproof toe cap, and a more dialed-in, one piece upper. Unlike the Novablast 5 TR, the added rubber doesn’t dampen the ride—the midsole still feels just as comfortable, bouncy, and energetic. In fact, the grip is excellent—possibly better than Puma Grip—making it one of the best rubber compounds we’ve tested. While the shoe did absorb quite a bit of water during initial testing in a rainstorm, the wet-weather traction was outstanding. The GRVL updates make this a great option for transitioning between roads, gravel paths, wet surfaces, and light trails.
