Nike Pegasus Plus 2

The Nike Pegasus Plus 2 is a daily trainer designed for comfort and versatility. At $170 it competes with models like the Adidas Supernova Prima 2 ($160) and the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28 ($170). The Pegasus Plus 2 is significantly different from its predecessor with a much softer, higher stack of foam, a more comfort-oriented upper, and an added Air Zoom unit in the forefoot. The step-in feel is very nice and much more accommodating than the original Pegasus Plus, which fit very narrow and low volume. The tongue and Vaporfly-esque laces nod more towards a streamlined, speed shoe, but overall the heel padding and underfoot feel is very plush. While the previous version felt more like a firm, lower to the ground speed trainer, the Pegasus Plus 2 feels a lot better at slower, recovery paces. Out on the run it felt comfortable, protective, and soft, especially when landing on the heel, but it definitely wasn’t encouraging faster paces. While the Air Zoom unit in the forefoot doesn’t detract from the ride, it also doesn’t seem to be doing much either. If you like the looks of this shoe and love Nike, just know that this shoe leans more towards a recovery type of shoe than a speed shoe or even a peppy daily trainer.
