The ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28 is a max cushioned shoe designed for comfort and versatility. Priced at $170, it competes with shoes like the Nike Vomero Plus ($180) and Puma MagMax 2 ($180). The 28th version of the Gel-Nimbus is a minor update to the previous, coming in lighter with a slightly revised rubber layout. The step-in feel is exactly what we would expect and have come to enjoy about the Nimbus line—comfortable and perfectly dialed-in. There is a lot of padding and cushion in the heel and the lace up is really nice with a slightly stretchier, but very soft tongue. The foam is soft enough to feel actively comfortable, but not too soft to not feel a nice bounce and energy return. On the run we were happy to find that the ride was very similar to the previous version. It has an excellent geometry, a smooth ride, and lots of comfort and protection underfoot. It’s lightweight, but still protective, feels smooth but not cumbersome, very cushioned while still being able to pick up the pace. The Gel-Nimbus is the definition of a great daily trainer—versatile and something you could do any type of run in. We did some of our best strides and hill sprints on the run after some normal daily miles. The Nimbus 28 delivers a completely dialed, versatile, max stack shoe that is great for marathon training and stacking miles.
