On Cloudmonster 3

The On Cloudmonster 3 is a max cushioned daily trainer designed for comfort and bounce. Priced at $190, it competes with shoes like the Nike Vomero 18 ($155) and Asics Gel-Nimbus 28 ($175). The midsole is comprised of On’s Helion foam, an EVA/Olefin blend, along with 3 layers of the EVA-based Cloudtec. The upper has a more performance-oriented fit than you’d expect from a more standard running and walking shoe. The step-in feel is very firm, but it fits true to size and there is a good amount of room in the toebox. Overall, it is ok to solid in terms of being a performance running shoe. It still does have the rocker and the foam breaks in a little bit with time. It is also very protective and the foam doesn’t break down or get mushy after a few miles. While the Cloudtec gives the impression of a soft feel, it has a very firm and stiff feeling when jogging and walking. If you just want one shoe to walk in and run in and you really like the On brand, the Cloudmonster 3 will work well for you. However, if you are looking for a high mileage training shoe and have a shoe rotation, the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper would be a better pick.
