The R.A.D Synth is a lightweight daily trainer designed for speed and versatility. Priced at $140, it features a TPEE/Bio EVA midsole foam, R.A.D.’s signature design aesthetics, and specs that closely match the Adidas Evo SL. The Synth is not designed to provide super soft cushioning or a crazy bounce. It sits lower to the ground, feels speedy, and requires you to put in the work.Compared to the UFO, it has a narrower, more svelte fit with a less plush upper, tongue, and laces, which is expected at this price point; however, like the UFO, it has a dialed, considered fit with a nice step-in feel. The foam is firmer than the PEBA found in the UFO, and the geometry and rocker are less aggressive, placing it more firmly in the basic, workhorse daily trainer category. Out on the run, we found it to be on the firmer side but not brick-like, offering a nice pop with a very smooth ride. The foam delivers high energy return and feels very peppy. Because it is firmer, the ride feels protective, and the heel geometry is better than the Evo SL, allowing it to be especially good for heel strikers. It also feels like the shoe will break in over time and become even bouncier. The overall package R.A.D put together with the Synth is very cohesive, and we think it is a really solid option for daily runs that include pace pickups, strides, and hill sprints.
