The Skechers Aero Elite is an all new, lightweight race shoe designed for speed. At $225, it competes with models like the Nike Alphafly 4 ($280) and the TYR Valkyrie Elite V2 ($280). The Aero Elite features Skechers’ new Hyper Burst Pro foam, an ATPU compound, along with a carbon-fiber plate with strategic cut outs to save weight. It has a very lightweight, tongue-less upper and light rubber coverage on the outsole. The upper is soft and comfortable and it has a snug, race-day fit with good lockdown. Out on the run, we found the foam to be on the softer side with not as much cushioning and rebound as we would like, which results in a bit of plate or ground feel. The rocker geometry is smooth and there is a nice snap off the forefoot, reminiscent of the Vaporfly, but the foam does feel a little mushy. The Aero Elite is not the most aggressive, most protective, or fastest of the racers on the market; but, if you are looking for a streamlined, stripped down, comfortable, lightweight, racer to use for shorter distance races or intervals, and you like super soft foams, the Aero Elite is worth checking out.
