The Speedland RX:FPY is a max-cushioned running shoe designed to be hybrid—blending the properties of both comfortable training and long-distance racing shoes. Priced at $300, it comes with a removable carbon fiber plate and the unique BOA lacing system, giving the RX:FPY its signature PerformFit Wrap around the circumference of the foot. The RX:FPY is reminiscent of built-up max-cushioned training shoes like the Puma Magnify Max and Saucony Endorphin Trainer (both $180), but also possesses some of the qualities we’ve loved in the cruiser category of racing shoes (Tracksmith Eliot Racer and On Cloudboom Strike, both $280). While the Adidas EVO SL isn’t a direct comparison, we found that both shoes excel at gray zone running—a gear faster than easy but slower than marathon pace. The uncompressed CSF midsole foam in the RX:FPY offers an extremely protective, moderately soft, and bouncy ride—making it an excellent mileage crusher. During initial testing, we noted that this is the type of shoe that passes the “hour-mark test,” a true crossover point that separates the great/excellent shoes from the good/mediocre ones. The RX:FPY only felt better with each successive mile, with no indication of the midsole tiring out (e.g., diminished bounce, protection, or comfort). The Speedland RX:FPY is not a particularly fast or nimble shoe and isn’t designed to be an elite performance product, despite what the nameplate suggests. Rather, it’s built to offer next-level comfort and support over speed—especially for marathoners more concerned with survival (i.e., finishing the race) than chasing an OTQ time.
