Below we are delving into the specs of the Adidas Adios Pro 5, comparing it to the Adios Pro 4, and giving you our review.

The Adidas Adios Pro 5 is here and the specs speak for themselves. At 177g, a new Lightstrike Pro formulation, and the new Carbon Energy Rim the Adios Pro 5 is one of the most intriguing and anticipated racers of the year.

The Adios Pro 4 was a legendary racer with a soft, dynamic midsole and a propulsive rocker geometry. It was loved by the masses despite being significantly softer than the Adios Pro 3. With the newest iteration in the Adios Pro 5, Adidas promises to pick up where the Pro 4 left off while trickling down innovative tech from Adidas’ pinnacle racer, the Adios Pro EVO 3.
The Adios Pro 4 featured the last generation of Lightstrike Pro foam, Lightstrike Pro 2.0, which was a type of TPEE formulation. In the Adios Pro 5, Adidas is using the new Lighstrike Pro formulation, but the actual compound has not been disclosed.

The Adios Pro 4 utilized carbon energy rods, Adidas' signature carbon element. With the Adios Pro 5, Adidas is featuring their new carbon element, a carbon energy rim, that was also utilized in the elite marathon race shoe, the Adios Pro EVO 3, and in the Prime X Evo ultra marathon racer.
The Adios Pro 5 comes in at 177 grams in a US sample size 9, which is significantly lighter than the Adios Pro 4, which weighed 200 grams.
The Adios Pro 5 price increased by $25 to $275.

The Adidas Adios Pro 5 is a lightweight marathon racer that puts a big emphasis on comfort without giving up speed. At $275, it sits in the same price range as the New Balance SC Elite v6 ($275) and above the Topo Specter Elite ($250).
At first glance, the Adios Pro 5 doesn’t look dramatically different from the Adios Pro 4, but there are some pretty significant changes in the midsole construction. Adidas has given it a new version of Lightstrike Pro along with an updated carbon-infused EnergyRim, similar to what we saw in the $500 Evo Pro 3. That replaces the carbon rods used in the previous version. The geometry has also been toned down slightly, making this feel more approachable and less aggressive than the Adios Pro 4.
The upper is another noticeable improvement. Lightlock 2.0 is lighter and holds the foot more securely, and Adidas has also switched to sawtooth laces, which we really like. There’s more padding around the heel collar, giving the shoe a comfortable step-in feel, although getting the heel locked in takes a little work. Combined with the lighter midsole, all of these changes result in a substantial weight drop. Our men's size 9 sample came in at just 170 grams, which is extremely competitive for a marathon racer.
The biggest surprise for us was how good this shoe feels at slower paces. The ride is smooth, cushioned, and easy to run in, even when you're just warming up or cooling down. Once you start pushing the pace, the shoe has enough assistance to make turning over your legs feel natural, but it never feels overly aggressive.
The new Lightstrike Pro formulation is probably the highlight of the shoe. It lands in that Goldilocks range where there is enough responsiveness to make the shoe feel fast, but it doesn't have the overly soft or bouncy sensation that some super shoes have. The slightly more relaxed geometry also makes the Adios Pro 5 surprisingly forgiving and enjoyable across a wide range of paces.
It doesn't have the same aggressive feel or outright speed sensation as something like the Puma Fast-R 3, but that isn't necessarily what Adidas was going for here. The Adios Pro 5 feels more like a combination of the Evo SL and Evo Pro 3, giving you a lightweight, comfortable package with plenty of speed assistance. One thing we are going to be on the lookout for is the durability, as soom of our members have already noted significant wear after only one or two runs.
If you want a marathon racer that feels fast without being harsh, overly aggressive, or giving you a ton of plate sensation, the Adios Pro 5 is a very compelling option.
