The Hoka Stinson 8 is a max cushion road to trail shoe priced at $180. In this version, Hoka was able to bring down the weight from previous versions while maintaining a large stack of protective foam. There are two layers of compression molded EVA foam with an H-shaped frame in between to provide stability. On the outsole there are 3.5mm lugs and generous rubber coverage, as you’d expect for a road to trail shoe. The step-in feel is really nice with plenty of room in the forefoot and midfoot. The upper materials are soft and comfortable and right away you can tell the Stinson 8 will be a great walking, standing, and running errands type of shoe. Out on the run we were pleasantly surprised by the smooth rocker geometry, which makes for a very pleasant ride. The foam isn’t overly soft and squishy, but it is not too firm either. While not the most exciting shoe on the market, it is a solid, stable, comfortable and protective shoe that would transition easily between roads and trails. The Stinson 8 is also a great shoe for shorter daily runs, walking, or any other casual use.
