The Epic React Flyknit 2 was beloved for its versatility, lightweight construction and nimble, bouncy ride. The Adizero SL2 checks all of those boxes. It has a race foam core for bounce, is versatile enough for track days and long runs, and it boasts the legendary Adidas durability. Bonus: it’s $130, which is somehow $20 (!!!) cheaper than the Epic React 2 in 2019.

2. Tempo Next % Replacement: Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2
The Tempo Next% was a highly-cushioned speed trainer with an aggressive geometry and unique ride. Enter the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2. Cue Spiderman pointing at himself meme. This underrated speed trainer has tons of stack, a plastic plate and a rockered platform perfect for fast pace.
3. Vaporfly 2 Replacement: ASICS Metaspeed Sky Paris
The Vaporfly 2 was so far ahead of its time, some athletes still race in the shoe three years after its release. Though not as soft, the Sky Paris has the same aggressive toe off and bounce that activates when picking up the pace. If you miss the lightweight speed of the Vaporfly 2, the Sky Paris delivers a similar feel when getting the legs turning over quickly.
