Below we give an overview of the new On Cloudmonster 3 Hyper, the newest max stack daily trainer from On. We break down the specs, changes from the original Cloudmonster Hyper, and how it stacks up to its competitors for firmness of the foam, speed, flexibility, fit, and versatility.

The Cloudmonster 3 Hyper might be On’s most complete super trainer yet. With a full-length PEBA top layer inside an EVA CloudTec carrier, the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper keeps the cushioned spirit of the original while delivering a more consistent ride for all foot strikes. The 45mm stack and rocker geometry make it a strong option for long runs and steady efforts, while the updated upper feels more dialed compared to the roomy OG Hyper fit. It may not be the wildest ride in the category, but the bounce, stability, and reliability make this one easy to trust day after day.

The new Cloudmonster 3 Hyper packs more foam in the midsole. There is 46mm of foam in the heel, while the OG Hyper had only 37.5mm of foam in the heel. The 3 Hyper still has a 6mm drop, just like the previous version. This added stack and more PEBA foam does come with some additional weight. The new version weights 272 grams, which is up from 258 grams in a Men's size 9 from the original version.
The Cloudmonster 3 Hyper has a full-length PEBA race foam top layer with an EVA CloudTec carrier for added structure and stability while the OG Hyper had a forefoot slab of PEBA with a firm, traditional CloudTec configuration in the back.
The fit of the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper is much better with an upper that feels dialed. The OG had a wide, overly-voluminous fit.
The OG Cloudmonster Hyper was a cushioned, versatile daily trainer that worked well for forefoot strikers landing on the PEBA at the front of the shoe. With a full-length PEBA top layer, the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper has the robust, cushioned spirit of the original, but in a package that will work better for all foot strikes.

The foam in the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper, wrapped in the EVA Cloudtec carrier, delivers a slightly firm underfoot sensation. The Cloudtec carrier makes the shoe fairly rigid with not a lot of flexibility. This same construction also means that the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper excels at being stable. We think this shoe will be utilized mostly as a daily trainer for stacking miles at recovery and daily paces, but it is slightly above average in terms of its speed assistance. It won't hold you back or slow you down, but it is also not going to encourage you to pick up the pace, and we are unlikely to use it for workouts. While the previous version had a somewhat overly voluminous toebox and fit, the new iteration has a much more dialed upper, but still with plenty of length and width in the forefoot for most average to slightly wider feet.
