The Adidas Evo SL ATR is a variant of the iconic Evo SL designed for road to trail running. At $160 it competes with models like the Salomon Aero Glide 4 GRVL ($160) and the ASICS Novablast 5 TR ($150). The midsole compound and the geometry of the Evo SL ATR remain unchanged from the standard version, but in this iteration Adidas has added a water-resistant upper, small 1.5mm lugs and more rubber coverage to the outsole, and a slightly longer tongue and sawtooth laces. These changes do increase the overall weight of the shoe, but it wasn’t noticeable on the run. The fit is more dialed, much like the fit of the Evo SL Woven and Exo variants, which makes the ride more stable. Out on the run, we found the ride to be almost identical to that of the original version and we appreciated the additional grip provided by the lugs. We also really enjoyed it for casual use and light hiking, making it a very versatile shoe. If you are looking for a running shoe that can handle daily runs, some uptempo work, light trails, and road to trail running, the Evo SL ATR is a great pick.
