The ASICS Sonicblast is a new training shoe designed for comfort and versatility. Priced at $180, it competes with shoes like the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 ($170) and Brooks Hyperion Max 3 ($200). It’s the latest release in ASICS’ Blast lineup and features a dual-foam setup: ASICS’ new ATPU foam, FF Turbo2 (the same foam used in the Megablast), on top, a PEBAX plate for stability in the middle, and FF Blast Max foam on the bottom. Step-in feel is excellent, with just the right amount of padding around the heel and tongue, a secure lockdown, and more room and volume in the toebox compared to the Megablast. Out on the run, the bottom layer of foam does dull some of the bounce from the ATPU top layer, but the overall ride is extremely comfortable, protective, and it is easy to run in. It comes across as a more streamlined, smoother, and softer version of the Superblast. The transition to the forefoot is not quick and we wouldn’t describe it as being snappy or as a speed trainer. For us, the Sonicblast shines as a max-cushion cruiser—ideal for recovery runs or long mileage days. It’s stable and natural-feeling with a smooth, but relaxed quality. At $180, it’s a strong option if you’re after a shoe that’s comfortable, reliable, and free of quirks—something that can handle extended time on feet while still bringing some fun.
