Here we take a look at the 5 Best Max Cushion Running Shoes on the market in May 2025. Find out what new shoe made the list and where the Saucony Endorphin Trainer, Puma MagMax, Brooks Glycerin Max, ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27, and Mizuno Neo Vista 2 landed. We will tell you why each shoe made our power rankings list this month and how to choose which max cushion shoe is right for you.
Welcome to the latest edition of the Max Cushion Supwell Power Rankings. We launched this series as a way to keep a running list of the best shoes on the market, updated each month. This month we decided to give a little love to the more comfort oriented max cushion gang cruisers. Here are our top 5 most comfortable max cushion gang trainers right now. Editor’s note: Our criteria for this list is enjoyment, mileage accumulation on the Supwell team, adoption in the hobby jogger community, US market availability and price/value.
The Puma MagMax continues its reign atop the max cushion list for its reliability, durability and comfort for long miles. Its position as the top cruiser on the market has recently been challenged by the Salomon Aero Glide 3—a lighter and more streamlined option—but that one is on the daily trainer roundup. For protection and bounce, MagMax is still the top dog (or should we say the big cat?).
It’s hard to believe the Glycerin Max has been on the market for nearly 9 months. In that time, many a max cushion shoe have released, but none have been able to match the special combination of protection, pop and pleasant vibes present in the Glizzy Max. What’s also become clear as hobby joggers have started to rack up serious mileage on this thing is just how durable it is. At $200, you’re getting what you pay for with this one.
With the refocusing of the max cushion list on comfort, the Nimbus 27 take its rightful spot in the top 5. This is a highly underrated training shoe that’s just as capable of 20 mile long runs as it is of 30 minute dog jogs. The ride is smooth, bouncy and stacked to the sky. And the kicker—the mustard yellow colorway can be bought for $101 at Dicks right now.
The Endorphin Trainer is the rare shoe that’s both reliable and fun. Like the MagMax, it’s bouncy and rockered but also stable and not overly squishy. Saucony achieves this by pairing the new-kid-on-the-block Incredirun race foam with the old-school EVA-based PWRRUN EVA. There’s also a 3/4 length carbon plate in there for stability. It’s an odd throuple, but it works. Get this one if you want supportive comfort and pep for high-mileage training.
New to the Max Cushion Power Rankings list, the Neo Vista 2 features the supremely soft and bouncy EnerzyNXT foam from the Neo Zen, making this one of the most interesting shoes of the year. Whereas the original was comfortable but staid, the Vista 2 is a fun, floaty moonboot that excels on long runs. Besides the $20 price increase, the major issues here are the fit of the upper—it’s one of the sloppiest we’ve tried in recent memory—and slippy grip. The comically tall midsole is so good, we forgive all sins.
