This month, the Nike Vomero Premium sweeps in to take the top spot, the Puma MagMax holds tightly on to its second spot as the most versatile, Nike claims another spot with the Vomero Plus, ASICS Gel-Nimbus continues its reign on the list by epitomizing Max Cushion Gang and being regularly available at a crazy discount, and the Skechers Aero Burst fights back against brand snobs, returning to the list once again. The October Max Cushion Power Rankings List was: Mizuno Neo Vista 2, Puma MagMax, Brooks Glycerin Max, ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27, and Nike Vomero 18.
1. Nike Vomero Premium: Best Overall
The Nike Vomero Premium has landed at the top of the Max Cushion Power Rankings this month for its unprecedented 55mm of stack, dual Air Zoom units, and unique ride. This shoe delivers on its promise to defy gravity and to eliminate the impact of high mileage training on the body. The fun, bouncy ride and stability without a plate is a welcomed example of performance running shoe innovation.

2. Puma MagMax: Most Versatile
The MagMax is holding strong in the second spot on the Power Rankings list again due to its versatility, reliability, and ability to retain its popularity more than a year after its launch. It’s a perfect option if you are looking for a long run cruiser with a firmer, more stable ride without the soft, squishy foam found in the Neo Vista 2 and other max stack shoes.

3. Nike Vomero Plus: Most Daily-Able Max Cushion Shoe
Nike has done it. They managed to snag two spots on the Max Cushion list this month with the launch of the Vomero Plus and Premium. Hobby Joggers are enjoying the Vomero Plus for its streamlined feel, higher drop (especially for forefoot strikers), ability to pick up the pace, and highly padded upper. It’s not the most advanced or exciting max cushion shoe, and it’s unlikely to dethrone the MagMax’s spot, but it’s a good value at $180.

4. ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27: Best Deal
The Nimbus 27 retains its fourth spot on the Power Rankings list this month for its cushioned ride, stability, responsiveness, and ability to protect your legs on recovery and long runs. It does everything we expect from a max cushion cruiser. Since it can often be found for $100, it is hands down the best value shoe on this list.

5. Skechers Aero Burst: Most Underrated
The Aero Burst made it back on to our Max Cushion list this month. It is an underrated, overlooked shoe due to Skecher’s “grandma shoe” stigma, but we highly recommend you give it a try. The smooth rocker geometry, fun and peppy toe-off experience, responsive foam, and comfort with a high stack of foam are unmatched at $140. Skechers is improving their chances of being seen as a true performance running shoe brand with this one.
