Below we are giving our thoughts on 5 trends we are seeing emerge in running shoe culture in 2026 so far. We're seeing the hype cycles of each exciting new shoe get shorter, Chinese brands and new tech getting lots of buzz, running shoes that used to get lots of attention aren't making a splash anymore, brands are coming out with fun new colorways and collaborations, and stability shoes are becoming more popular.

The hype cycle is accelerating, stability shoes are getting a modern glow up, and models we used to overhype are quietly sitting on shelves while new tech like Super Boom capsules grab the spotlight. At the same time, colorway collabs are becoming just as important as performance, blending run culture with lifestyle in a way that’s hard to ignore. It feels like we’re in a transition era where tech, storytelling, and aesthetics all matter equally.

Think back to the buzz surrounding the original Superblast; it remained the market’s most-hyped super trainer for the better part of 2 years. In 2026, however, the volume of releases is so high that a new hype shoe, like the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4, is lucky to last a week in the spotlight before a new shiny one takes its place.

Up until recently, bouncy, soft race foams and stability would never be uttered in the same breath. But with shoes like the Superblast 3 integrating a springy, soft pinnacle race into a supportive, robust platform, and the Saucony Endorphin Azura with its firm, yet responsive foam, it seems we’re entering a new era where stability and energy return can co-exist.

The Endorphin Pro 5 and Cielo X-1 3.0 just released, but virtually no-one in the running shoe enthusiast community seemed to care. The Endorphin Pro 3 and Cielo X-1 OG were legendary, but their successors just aren’t garnering the same level of hype in a market saturated with excellent marathon racer options.

Whether it’s in a fun max cushion daily trainer or a pinnacle marathon racer, Li-Ning’s Super Boom capsule tech, found in the Red Hare 9 Ultra and the Feidian 6 Elite, delivers one of the most exciting, energetic rides on the market.

As running culture continues to converge with the world of fashion, we’re seeing a rise in specialty collab colorways for performance shoes. The Realtree camo edition of the Nike Vomero Premium and the John Elliot Hoka Rocket X3 are prime examples.
