The ASICS Megablast is a max stack daily trainer designed for speed and versatility. Priced at $225, it features a 45mm stack of ASICS’s new FF Turbo2 ATPU foam in an extremely lightweight package. Here we will provide an overview of the Megablast and let you know our thoughts after 100 miles.
The ASICS Megablast may be one of the best daily trainers ever released. Here at Supwell we have loved it for a variety of uses and paces and we enjoyed running in it so much that we got it up to 100 miles within one week. Below, we break down six reasons why the Megablast might be the best running shoe of all time—and let you know how it’s held up after 100 miles of use.
The weight to foam stack ratio in the Megablast is incredible— there is no other daily trainer with this much foam underfoot at such a light weight. It weighs the same as the Adidas EVO SL, which only has 37mm of foam in the heel, compared to the 45mm of foam in the Megablast. And the wider base of the Megablast provides more stability than the EVO SL.
It feels great at every pace, which is something we can’t say for the Superblast 2 and other max stack daily trainers or for carbon-plated race shoes that want you to run more aggressively. The foam sits right in the Goldilocks zone, and it just disappears on foot no matter if you are running at a relaxed, recovery run pace or digging deep to hit workout paces. Hats off to ASICS, because they built something remarkable here. It perfectly blends daily trainer versatility with race-day firepower.
Is the Megablast the closest shoe to perfect? We went over it with a fine-tooth comb looking for glue marks, loose stitching, or any signs of sloppy craftsmanship. At $225, expectations should be sky-high—and this pair actually delivers. The QA check feels flawless, perfectly balanced, and free of any issues worth pointing out. Everything about it looks and feels dialed in. Even after 100 miles it looks brand new. There is hardly any wear on the outsole, even in our high abrasion areas, and the foam feels better than it did the first day out of the box!
This shoe is just plain fun. It had us smiling and singing on every run. The light weight, bounce, and responsiveness of the foam are unprecedented in a daily trainer. ASICS is currently at the top of our list of running brands, and here they delivered a unique product with a resilient and bouncy foam in a daily trainer package. There is no other shoe that delivers this amount of foam at this weight. This shoe delivers on the whole point of innovation—progress should make us better, stronger, faster, and more efficient.
After 100 miles we can say that the stability is fantastic. No ankle pressure or wiggling/slipping on turns, and no squishiness in the heel like with softer max stack shoes. It really does disappear on foot in a nice way once you get it going.
The ASICS Megablast is easily in max cushion territory. We’re talking super stack, tons of protection, and still lightweight on foot. That’s the marvel of modern shoe tech: more foam, more comfort, more bounce, and more speed without adding bulk. Some runners complain about higher stacks, but if the weight stays low, why wouldn’t we want the extra cushion? We took the Megablast on a 25 mile long run and it didn't bottom out or feel tired at any point. You could easily take this shoe for a road ultra marathon without worrying about having enough protection and comfort under foot to take you the full distance.
If you have wide feet, the Megablast might not be right for you. The upper has more of a performance fit with a lower volume forefoot and a more narrow fit through the toebox. We have found that the upper does break in and feel less starchy with continued use.
