Below we are ranking the top 5 marathon race shoes on the market in March 2026. See below which shoes fell off our previous rankings and which 2 new shoes made the list as well as where the Puma Fast R-3, Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite, Hoka Cielo X1 3.0, New Balance SC Elite v5, and the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4 landed this month.

Welcome to the March 2026 race shoe edition of the Supwell Power Rankings. We launched this series as a way to keep a running list of the best shoes on the market updated each month. Here are our 5 best race shoes right now. *Editor’s note: Our criteria for this list is enjoyment, mileage accumulation on the Supwell team, adoption in the hobby jogger community, US market availability and price/value. Our January 2026 list was: Puma Fast-R 3 on top, ASICS Metaspeed Sky Tokyo in second, Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4 in third, followed by the Mizuno Hyperwarp Pure, and New Balance SC Elite v5 in the last spot.

The Fast-R 3 remains at top of the game, but for the first time in months, we can see other brands starting to challenge Puma’s dominance. With runners increasingly trying exciting new Chinese racers, and with brands like Hoka finally releasing legit marathon contenders, the battle for the top spot in our Power Rankings is heating up.

If you told us a month ago that we’d be using anything but the Fast-R 3 for our next marathon PR attempt, we probably wouldn’t have believed you. But the tables have turned. After running a 2:30 marathon in the Feidian 6 Elite last weekend, we can safely say this is one of the best racing shoes we’ve ever tested.

The first two versions of the Cielo X-1 failed to deliver the confidence-inspiring ride we look for when towing the line on race day, but Hoka has finally delivered the racer we’ve been asking for. This third iteration seamlessly blends cushion and speed assistance, making it arguably the best overall marathon shoe for the vast majority of runners.

Stability. Durability. Reliability. Affordability. The Deviate NITRO Elite 4 has all these qualities and then some. This is the ideal pick if you’re looking for an accessible, supportive, and bouncy race shoe for your next block.

If comfort is a top priority in your next racing shoe, the SC Elite v5 has your name on it. The best thing about New Balance’s flagship racer, however, is that underfoot comfort doesn’t come at the expense of speed. Equally capable of providing support for long time on feet and ripping fast paces, this is a highly versatile and capable marathon companion.
