This is our third edition of a new Supwell Power Rankings category that we are calling the Zone 3 Champs. These are the shoes we find ourselves putting on when we are feeling good and we want to just run in something fast and fun. Until now, these shoes have been taking up spots on the speed training and max cushion lists—or sliding through the cracks. Think of this as an expansion category to highlight some of the fun new daily trainers to hit the market this year. With this new list, the speed category can be dedicated to the fastest workout shoes, the max cushion rankings can highlight comfort cruisers like the Bondi 9 and Gel-Nimbus 27, and true Zone 3 Champs can get their time in the spotlight. On July 2025's Zone 3 Champs Power Rankings list was the Brooks Hyperion Max 3, Adidas Prime X 3 Strung, Adidas EVO SL, ASICS Superblast 2, and the Hoka Skyward X.

ASICS Megablast: Best Overall
The ASICS Megablast is new to the Zone 3 Champs list and shot all the way to the top for its debut. It might be our favorite shoe of all time, and it has definitely solidified its spot as the best new shoe of 2025. It features ASICS' new ATPU foam that is right in the goldilocks zone of not too soft and not too firm and is incredibly light weight, protective, and versatile. It performs well at all paces and efforts and we can see plenty of hobby joggers taking it the entire marathon distance.

Brooks Hyperion Max 3: Best Max Stack
The Hyperion Max 3 is the best do-it-all training shoe this side of the Megablast. With a bouncy midsole foam and stiff plastic plate, it’s a speed weapon that also feels protective and capable of long runs.

Adidas EVO SL: Most Hyped
The Adidas EVO SL continues to be one of the most popular shoes on the market—and with good reason. It’s fast, has race day tech for $150. and it looks great. New releases are starting to erode its chokehold on the culture (Nike Vomero Premium, ASICS Megablast), but the EVO SL is going nowhere until Adidas decides to release the second version.

The Mach X3 might have just launched, but it’s essentially a Mach X2 with a better upper. At its current discounted price of $150, the Mach X2 delivers the best bang for your buck in the speed training category. If you like the sound of the Mach X3’s high stack platform, smooth rocker geometry, and goldilocks zone foam, we recommend giving last year’s model a try first.
