The Salomon Aero Glide GRVL is a daily trainer revised to handle wet pavement and light trails with comfort and protection. Priced at $160, it competes with models like the Nike Peg Trail 5 GTX ($170) and the ASICS Novablast 5 TR ($150). Here we will go over 5 things that make the Aero Glide GRVL a great road-to-trail running shoe.

What makes the Salomon Aero Glide 3 GRVL so good? The Aero Goat GRVL starts strong with a max stack of bouncy and ultra-durable midsole foam—giving us fine-tuned, modern Triumph 20 vibes underfoot. It also fixes the one “issue” we saw in the non-GRVL edition by swapping in a more aggressive, grippy outsole that can handle road-to-trail transitions with ease. Add in an accommodating and comfortable upper, all wrapped into a 266 gram package, and this shoe is ready for whatever you throw at it.

The Aero Glide 3 features a bouncy, fun and ultra-durable beaded TPU midsole that works well for all foot strikes and pace ranges. This midsole is true goldilocks zone in all aspects: soft, but not mushy, bouncy, but not uncontrolled, robust and durable, but not excessively stable and brick-like. The Aero GOAT has one of the highest hobby jogger approval ratings of 2025 thanks to its versatile midsole.

The Aero Glide 3 taps into the midsole magic of the Triumph 20 (and 21) from 2022, which hobby joggers loved for its bouncy, reliable ride. Fine-tuning the Triumph 20’s formula for the modern market in 2025, the Aero Glide 3 uses a similar lightweight, fun beaded TPU foam, but ups the forefoot stack for additional high mileage capability and underfoot protection. If you stacked lots of mileage in the Triumph 20, the Aero Glide will bring back some nostalgia.
The one weak point of the original Aero Glide 3 was the durability of its outsole rubber (we noticed significant breakdown in our highest wear areas after 100 miles). Thankfully, Salomon addressed this issue in the Aero Glide 3 GRVL, moving to a more aggressive road-to-trail style outsole. Excelling on country roads and trails without sacrificing any performance on the pavement, this is one of the most versatile daily trainer outsoles on the market.

The first version of the Aero Glide 3 had a very wide, voluminous fit that bordered on cavernous for runners with narrow-average width feet. In the GRVL edition, Salomon went with an updated seamless, sock fitting upper that remains accommodating and comfortable for wide feet while dialing in the fit for everyone else.
The Aero Glide 3 has one of the best weight-to-stack ratios of any daily trainer on the market—and it has a road-to-trail outsole. The Aero Glide GRVL comes in at 266 grams in a Men's Size 9. The Nike Vomero 18 comes in 60 grams heavier, at 326 grams, with the same stack height. Similarly, the Puma MagMax Nitro weighs 292 grams and the Novablast 5 TR comes in at 275 grams with a much less grippy outsole.
