Learn below how the Nike Vomero Premium, Puma Fast-R 3, ASICS Megablast, Nike Vomero Plus, and the ASICS Superblast 3 helped Yowana train for and run a sub 2:30 marathon at the Bayshore Marathon in 2026.

There’s no perfect formula for a fast marathon, but the right shoes can make a huge difference over a long training block. From race day rockets to recovery cruisers, these five pairs played a big role in helping him stack miles, stay healthy, and show up ready to race. The mix matters too—speed for workouts, comfort for recovery, and versatility for everything in between.

I named the Puma Fast-R 3 my Demon Time Race Shoe. I had a great experience in the Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite for my 2:30:13 in Wilmington, but I went back to the battle-tested Puma Fast-R 3 for my Bayshore PR. No other shoe feels this dialed, fast, and aggressive at marathon effort.

The Superblast 3 was my go-to daily trainer, high mileage tank for this block, combining max cushion comfort and stability with a responsive, fun race foam. After coining the Superblast 2 the SuperBrick, the Superblast 3 with a huge stack of the soft and lively FF Leap ATPU foam was a really pleasant surprise. I like the Superblast 3 just as much as I disliked the Superblast 2.

The Vomero Plus is one of the most versatile daily trainers on the market. I logged over 200 miles in the Vomero Plus during my race prep, using it primarily for peppy daily miles. In this block, I transitioned to a slightly lower-volume, Zone 3 focused training style, and the Vomero Plus was the perfect do-it-all daily companion for this approach.

The Megablast has yet to be de-throned as my long run and speed champ. With a lightweight construction, a non-plated. race caliber midsole, and unmatched durability, the Megablast was one of the key players in my rotation this block. From intense 400m and 200m repeat workouts to 25 mile long runs, the Megablast can truly do it all.

The Vomero Premium is undoubtedly one of the most cushioned and protective performance running shoes on the market. While it has never been an optimal running shoe for me, I came to appreciate it as a leg-saving recovery tool during race week. Not only did it take the burden off my legs while travelling, but it also helped me nurse a case of Plantar Fasciitis that popped up right before the race.
