In May 2026, we tested 7 different road running shoes. Here we are giving our initial thoughts and recommending who should get each one. See below whether you should add the Adidas Hyperboost Edge, Saucony Endorphin Elite 3, Saucony Paramount Max, Mount to Coast C1, Skechers Aero Razor, Nike Pegasus 42, or the New Balance 860v15 to your running shoe rotation.

From super trainers to max cushion cruisers, we’ve been putting a ton of the newest releases through the miles and there were definitely some surprises. The Hyperboost Edge and Endorphin Elite 3 delivered some of the most fun rides we’ve tested lately, while shoes like the Pegasus 42 and Mount to Coast C1 landed more in the dependable daily trainer category.

The Hyperboost Edge is a do-it-all super trainer with a non-plated slab of bouncy expanded PEBA.
Buy if: You want a versatile, fun super trainer that can do a bit of everything and you like a bouncy, rockered ride
Skip if: You have a massive rotation and prefer having a wide array of specialized shoes of if you don’t like finicky uppers

Still not as light and fast as options like the Fast-R 3, the Endorphin Elite 3 offers the most fun ride on the market.
Buy if: You want the softest, most fun racer on the market or if you prioritize fun and bounce over raw speed assistance
Skip if: You need a stable ride for the marathon distance or yoou’re seeking a no-nonsense, distraction-free racer

The Paramount Max is a wide, floaty max cushion shoe that’s not as energetic and fun as we were expecting.
Buy if: You want the widest, most boat-like shoe on the market or if you like protective traditional max cushion cruisers like the Gel-Nimbus 28
Skip if: You want true super trainer levels of energy return and you’re expecting the same Incredirun that’s in the Endorphin Elite 3

The C1 doesn’t live up to its “super trainer” marketing, but is a stable, reliable elevated training shoe.
Buy if: You’re a road ultra runner seeking a wide, highly-stable, and reliable shoe for long time-on-feet efforts
Skip if: You’re tired of standard EVA being used in 2026 or if you’re seeking an exciting, outside-the-box ride

The Aero Razor is a great pick if you’re looking for a nimble, snappy, low-to-the-ground speed trainer.
Buy if: You want a lower stack, highly rockered shoe for intervals, hill sprints, and the development of strong running mechanics
Skip if: You want a soft, cushioned ride in the forefoot of if you have a wide foot (this shoe runs on the narrower side)

The Pegasus 42 is a solid update to the iconic Pegasus line, but it's still way too heavy at 292 grams.
Buy if: You’ve been a long-time fan of the Pegasus, and want a solid update to Nike’s workmanlike daily trainer
Skip if: The Pegasus hasn’t done much for you in the past (this one isn’t going to change your mind) or if you want top tier energy return and fun

The New Balance 860v15 is a regression in every way, offering a firm, heavy, and lifeless ride compared to the 860v14.
Buy if: You want a heavy, brick-like, stability shoe that’s stuck in the past
Skip if: You’re capable of rational thought
