As we close out 2025, we wanted to give you a Supwell Power Rankings top 5 list of the best running shoe brands of the year. See where Nike, Adidas, ASICS, Mizuno, and Puma fell on our list.

We launched this Supwell Power Ranking series as a way to keep a running list of the best shoes on the market updated each month. Here are the 5 best running shoe brands of 2025. *Editor’s note: Our criteria for this list is enjoyment, mileage accumulation on the Supwell team, adoption in the hobby jogger community, US market availability and price/value.

ASICS closes out 2025 atop our brand power rankings. Since our mid year list, they’ve dropped three of the best racing shoes of 2025—Metaspeed Ray, Metaspeed Sky Tokyo and Metaspeed Edge Tokyo—and the best training shoe of all time—the Megablast—to name a few. It’s tough to compete with that.

Puma retains the number 2 slot due to the staying power of the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3, which continues to sell out almost immediately every time a new colorway drops. On the training side, strong daily workhorses—Magnify Nitro 3 & Velocity Nitro 4—kept the momentum rolling for Puma through the second half of 2025.

Nike climbs to the #3 position on our rankings following a back half of 2025 marked by innovation. While iconic racers like the Alphafly and Vaporfly are due for updates, Nike gained significant momentum with the Vomero Plus and Vomero Premium, two of the best max cushion shoes of the year.

The only reason Mizuno isn’t higher on this list is their lower adoption compared to the likes of Nike and ASICS: their products are top tier, but the masses haven’t yet woken up to the heat they’ve been dropping. With their bold new Hyperwarp family of racers with the Hyperwarp Pure, Hyperwarp Pro, and Hyperwarp Elite, and some of the best trainers on the market like the Neo Visa 2, its only a matter of time before Mizuno breaks through. All the pieces are in place for a huge 2026 for the brand.

Adidas falls two positions in our rankings due to a relatively quiet second half of the year. While the iconic Evo SL remains immensely popular, increasing competition, noticeable quality control issues, and the ridiculous price of the Adios Pro Evo 2 relative to better pinnacle race shoes from other brands ultimately cost them ground.
